Viking Racing announces 2011 plans with expansion in to Formula Cars
For 2011, 2010 NorCal Rotax Masters champion, Andre S. Eriksen will compete in the Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear in a Pro Formula Mazda. Eriksen will join 2009 Star Mazda Masters Champion Mike Guasch.
"I'm excited to take the move in to cars - something I always wanted to do and I got a really good opportunity from Mike to join him and participate in his program. I'm excited to team up with Mike as well as the seasoned team of mechanics."
Eriksen will also team up with Steve Cameron for driver coaching and Rick Cameron for Race Engineering. With 30 years of racing on his resume Steve Cameron brings a lifetime of experience and has trained a number of top drivers. Steve is also a two time Daytona 24 hour class winner, a Toyota Atlantic Championship Runner Up and a Regional Karting Champion. Today Steve is team manager of Finlay Motorsports.
Rick Cameron has been responsible for engineering 4 of the last 7 Star Mazda Championship winning programs. Rick was also responsible for engineering the last four years of the Lynx Racing Atlantic program from 2000 until 2004. He also received 2 engineer of the year awards while in the Formula Atlantic Series.
"I'm looking forward to work with everyone on the team and benefit from their great experience. I had an excellent 2010 season and by using the same recipe as in karting, surrounding myself with nobody but the very best in the industry, I'm confident that I'ill be able to transition fast and eventually become as successful in the car as in the kart"
To stay fit and keep the race craft intact Eriksen will continue karting in the Redline NorCal Rotax DD2 shifter kart Championship and probably the US Grand Nationals.
The Pro Formula Mazda is a high-tech open-wheel car with carbon fiber chassis, fully-adjustable suspension and 6-speed no-lift-shift sequential gearbox. All cars were upgraded at the start of the 2009 season with improved aerodynamics, suspension, brakes and engine.
The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear is a regionalized open wheel racing series with an annual national championship. There are multiple regions across the country, and each region has unique features and events.
